Hi — I’m Tabiiku. I travel around Japan with my daughter on the principle that experience is the best thing you can give a child. Fukuoka needs a flight from Tokyo, which can feel like a lot with children — but we have relatives there so we go often, and we have a hotel we return to every time.

Why this one
- The location is superb
- The hotel is beautiful and well designed
- The food is genuinely good
And the two things against it:
- The layout of the best room type is awkward with children
- There are no activities at all
Location
Most people coming from Tokyo will fly Haneda to Fukuoka, which is about two hours. Not close, but the route is well served — ANA and JAL, plus low-cost carriers like StarFlyer.
From Fukuoka airport the hotel is fifteen minutes by car, which is excellent. And if you are arriving by Shinkansen it is even better: seven minutes on foot from Hakata station. It makes a very convenient base for exploring the city.
The hotel and the rooms
The building is stylish and immaculately kept, with a resort feel rather than a business-hotel one — there is greenery, a courtyard and a pool.
The one caveat is the layout of the top room category. It is a suite, and the bath sits more or less in the middle of the room, open to the rest of the space. It is a striking piece of design, and it is not what you want with a child.
Food
This is the real strength. The restaurant on the ground floor is reasonably priced and the quality is high. We stayed over new year, so the menu that night was a set course only — and all of it was excellent (I forgot to photograph some of it). There is a children’s plate too, and it is good enough that an adult would be happy with it.
The lounge is just as good. Book a rate that includes lounge access and drinks and light food are free. On new year’s eve they served toshikoshi soba in the lounge, which was wonderful.
The next morning, breakfast is served in the same lounge, order-buffet style: Western, Japanese, pastries, desserts, everything. That morning they had also put out abalone and roast beef, and I would come back the following year for that alone.
The downside
For better or worse this is not a hotel aimed at families, so there are no activities whatsoever. If anything it is a hotel for couples. But the location is so good, and the food so much better as a result, that the answer is simply to do your activities out in the city.
