Hi — I’m Tabiiku. I travel around Japan with my daughter on the principle that experience is the best thing you can give a child. My family wants to go camping. I do not want to go camping. Glamping is where we meet in the middle.
If what you want is glamping aimed at children rather than at adults, Lucy Kiki in Izu Kogen is the one. Very large rooms, excellent food, and cats you can play with.

First, wear them out: Izu Granpal Park
With a child at the age where they need to move, you are not allowed to go straight to the hotel. The trip begins by finding somewhere to burn off the energy.
We went to Izu Granpal Park, about ten minutes by taxi from Izu Kogen station — the same station as Lucy Kiki. There is a small rides area and a park-like area with play equipment. It works well for children from about walking age to pre-school. Anyone at primary school or above may find it thin.
The first thing my daughter went for was the puzzle maze, where you collect stamps as you work through and become a Treasure Hunter at the end. (There is no actual prize.) She achieved Treasure Hunter status and was thrilled.
There were also go-karts, and a dinosaur-themed play area, and three hours vanished. She cried when we had to leave, and we actually went back for another half hour on the morning we left.

On to the hotel. You will not find a taxi cruising past, so ring for one.
We stayed in the Kids Glamping Room. There is a hammock and a tent set up on the balcony, and my daughter was beside herself. I was invited to play camping in a very small tent.
There is a cat room in the hotel with cats in residence, and you can stroke them and play with them. We cannot keep a pet at home, so this was a genuine treat.
The food
The food was the other highlight — and given the star rating I have given it, that is not faint praise.
One caveat
There is not enough to do inside the hotel to fill a whole day, and I think you would find it hard going if you tried. Pair it with something in the area — Izu Granpal Park worked perfectly for us.
